Gender Equality Matters – Dublin City University
DCU National Anti-Bullying and Resource Centre initiated the GEM project. They were joined by European partners, all of whom are passionate about gender equality as a way of tackling gender stereotyping, gender-based bullying and gender-based violence. Dr. Seline Keeting, Assistant Professor in Social Personal and Health Education and Wellbeing at DCU is the Project Leader of the Gender Equality Matters project.
The project aims to raise awareness and enhance the confidence and capacity levels among children, adolescents, parents, teachers and educators, to empower whole schools and wider communities to challenge attitudes and behaviours that undermine gender equality.
They have developed a school self-evaluation tool which enables schools to reflect on and assess their current practice in relation to gender stereotypes, gender-based bullying and gender-based violence.
They have also created classroom materials and an online course aimed at 5th and 6th class primary school pupils.
